Tapco AK folding stock reviews

Two stars for being functional

Two stars for being functional, if just barely. The Tapco AK folding stock locking tabs that hold the stock open are pretty small and made of plastic, and the durability is questionable. After a little use, the spring that holds those tabs together when locked open or closed started to stick. Now the stock is difficult to open and close, and I have to give it a good whack to unstick the spring to get it to lock. The hinge mechanism hits me in the cheek when firing.

I had bought an AK47 that

I had bought an AK47 that had a stock similar to this. It wasn’t the best stock I’ve seen and used, but it wasn’t really terrible either. The one good thing I will say about it is the stock didn’t wiggle at all when it was either folded or extended out. The length was pretty good due to the fact I have pretty long arms, so reach wasn’t really an issue. The thing I didn’t personally care for was the fact that the end of the buttstock that makes contact with your shoulder was hard and rough, so shooting the AK with the buttstock extended out was the most comfortable experience. The AK stock would just transfer all the energy of the recoil into your shoulder.

Brittle in the cold

I had on my MAK90 variant. I loved it until the plastic pin broke. I called Tapco, and they rushed me a new steel pin! Worked great, really rugged. Until one night, I was hiking in the cold weather. I had the stock unfolded and went to put the rifle down. When I did, the stock shattered at the hinge because the cold made the plastic so brittle. I would still get another one for the money but use only in the warmer weather and change to a wood stock in the winter.
