Birchwood Casey Super Black Reviews

I used the Birchwood Casey Super Black to cover an I used this to cover a scratch on one firearm, and re-blue/darken the worn finish on the rear sight of another. It does a fair job, looks better than before in small areas. It dries very blackly and flat as advertised. Fairly fast-drying type of enamel paint, I think. Note: it will come right off if a strong gun cleaner/degreaser is used on the area treated.

Birchwood Casey Super Black does the job

I bought Birchwood Casey Super Black to use on my AR to touch up around the roll pins. Dries quickly and is a very close match to the original finish. You can see a slight difference in just the right light, but if you don’t already know it’s there, you’ll never see it.

Touch Up pen was dried out

Birchwood Casey’s super black touch up the pen was less than $8.00, so I didn’t return it, and I had it for two months before using it. The pen was dried out, so no paint would flow. I could feel and hear the ball when I shook it. But the paint would not flow on to the fiber tip. Check the pen out when you first get it. I will add to my next order to give it another try.

The Birchwood Casey super black touch up pen flat was good at first

I got this birchwood Casey super black touch up pen flat to touch up my rifle and sight. At first, it worked well. I stored the pen on its side like it says to do. I’ve used it only a handful of times. After having the paint pen for several months and using it maybe three times The pen tip has hardened, and now it comes out thick and gunky, and I’m not able to touch little spot up without smearing large amounts of paint and making that small spot like horrible. It’s to the point that I have to push the tip in many times to get the paint out, and then I have to use a small paintbrush, or a cloth to use it. I’m very disappointed with the quality now. It didn’t last long at all, and I’d recommend using a different product other than this one if you want your rifles or sights to look good.

Birchwood Casey super black touch up pen Works excellent on shoot guns too.

I have used the Birchwood Casey super black touch up the pen on my AR’s but also on the ribs of my trap guns. Outstanding results on areas on the ridge that touch’s the gun rack and where my hand grabbed the barrel.

Great for touchups on Firearms

Bought to touch up a bit of finish wear from a Kydex holster on my Sig P365. Following the included directions, and it worked fine. You have to be in really bright light and do some serious looking to find the touched up areas.

Clumpy and Flat

I have used this as a touchup on .22 semi-auto rifle receivers and 9mm semi-auto pistols, but in both cases, the paint dries in lumpy spots, looking very unprofessional. Also, most receivers and slides are satin, not flat and not glossy, so neither B-C touchup pen matches the finish.

still evaluating value

I bought the flat black to touch up my Mossberg 500. Also, a divers watch that was losing its luster. So far, the touch up has been disappointing as it wears right off the stainless of the watch. Maybe it will work better on the gun. Different metal, texture etc..

Good for touchup

Any time that you are doing “touch up,” you probably are going to see where you repaired. The Birchwood Casey touch up pen works very well and is in a convenient applicator. I apply the touchup and then use my finger to blend it in with the natural bluing on the firearm. The repair does not leave the firearm perfect, but it does disguise the blemish, which is exactly what I expected.
