Discontinued:Tapco AK-47 Retainer Plate
The TAPCO Retaining Plate installs in seconds, quickly securing pins in position to keep your trigger group in place. The TAPCO Retaining Plate works in virtually all AK’s including the Tantal version.
Unlike other retaining plates on the market, the TAPCO Retaining Plate is finished in a military phosphate coating, one of the most durable and long lasting coating options available. It also features an installation tab for ease of use inserting and removing the plate. This small bend at the top of the plate gives you multi-directional control when working with the tight confines of the AK receiver.
The distinction between inferior quality and premium AK accessories is undeniable. At MSP, we only offer AK-47 accessories from the most trusted brands. Buy with confidence that we stand behind the product we sell.

The retaining plate works exactly as it is supposed to and very easy to install. My AK was easy to take the original spring out without parts moving around and without removing anything else besides the safety. I highly recommend it even if you don’t take parts out often just so you have an easy and pleasant experience doing so if and when needed.

Excellent and simple product. Installation time of about 5 minutes, including the removal of the horrible “L wire” that this product replaces. Makes reassembly of internals much easier because you don’t have to fiddle with that stupid wire anymore. Highly recommended for any AK owner.

The Tapco AK retaining works as advertised. Like nearly every part I have ever installed in an AK, it required some fitting with a file, Dremel, or sandpaper. If you are not comfortable fitting parts or do not understand, your AK does not buy this part or any other part.

I bought this plate to replace the regular pin retainer wire in my Yugo AK. Removing the wire was real trouble. However, the AK Retainer Plate plate is very easy to install. Now I can easily disassemble the trigger of my Yugo AK to clean it. I suggest this product and will buy another one for my Hungarian AK. I am very satisfied with this unit

As stated, Fits Most Models. My Polish AK underfolder, wasn’t one of them. All I did was grab a round file, file down the safety retaining hole on the plate NOT THE RECEIVER and just repeat until it fit. Pins don’t walk anymore, all is fine. Worth the price ? Yes. Am I bitchy about it ? Not at all.

This retainer plate fit with minor mods in my Zastava PAP M77PS and Yugo NPAP AK-47. Specifically the bent tab needed to be straightened a little to clear the hammer in one of the rifles. The plate did not work with my Arsenal SLR-107FR AK-74, it will fit but does not have any retention. As usual always save your old parts just in case.

I like this product as it replaces the shepards hook spring. In my situation on my Norinco Mak90, it seems I can install it but can’t complete the install due to the safety. When the safety is installed and rotated back into position it hits the top of the hammer and I can’t complete the rotation to install the safety. I am in the process of contacting a gunsmith to find out if a portion of the saftey mech can be ground further to clear the top of the hammer to complete the rotation and install. However this is not an issue with the shepards hook as it can be pulled out of the way and it allows the trigger pin to be slightly removed to allow enough room for the hammer to move forward and install the safety. Then you can slide the trigger pin in while pulling up on the sheppards hook enough to slide the pin in. This cannot be done with the Tapco retaining plate as it is rigid. Please DO NOT try to modify the safety yourself in this situation. Have a gunsmith review the problem and make adjustments if possible. I will also follow up with Tapco to see if there is another way to install this ret. plate for my situation.
