Magpul XTM rail covers reviews

I don’t like pink, but I am looking for a cheap bargain.

Bought these Magpul XTM rail cover to replace the hard rubber black ones that were breaking off. Washed these pink rail covers in acetone and spray painted them camo — not bad results. Paint chipped where I applied pressure from pliers to snap them together in place. Otherwise, I can live with these hidden pink covers. Would I repurchase them? Yes. I am cheap.

Look Good

Magpul XTM rail covers look good, especially if you alternate some colors. My only issue is the plastic is too rigid. I know they have special instructions on how to remove them, but I still had difficulty and have broken three of the covers in the two times I have taken them off.

A little work for a great custom look.

The Magpul XTM rail covers look fantastic, and the varieties of colors and the Hand Stop Kit made my AR Pistol look great. The upper is piston operated, so the grip is a little wide, but not wicked. In my experience, some cover sections required tools for install/removal. I used a pipe wrench pliers to get a positive lock on some parts, just a firm squeeze and it clicked, some locked by hand. Instead of using two rounds to remove each section, I used two thinner flat head bits from a gunsmithing screwdriver set. That separated the covers pretty good, and once a gap appeared used, the screwdriver with another flat bit and turned once to split the sections. It sounds like a lot of work but got more comfortable and almost fun as different configurations were desired to fit sling mounts, light, other XTM colors, etc.

Solid covers but a little bulky

These covers are sturdy and fit right. I like them, but being honest, they feel a little bit when used on all three sides of a full-size quad rail. Some say they break when you take them off, I’ve taken them off and on multiple times with no issue. I’ve learned I prefer softer covers, though, like UTGs or similar.

Better than expected

At first, when I opened the box, and all the individual pieces came out, I thought cheap and won’t last very long. Each section is two pieces that are joined together. In actuality, this set up is excellent and durable once they are mounted. Very well made, the material is rugged, and they make an excellent tight fit. Very confident product.

Perfect rail cover

Cons: Unfortunately, these rail covers won’t fall off! I tried shaking the rifle with no success. Then, I tried sliding the rail covers off, but they still wouldn’t move! I’m a little upset at Magpul for making this product work! (referencing a 3-star review from another user) Pros: Point being, there are no cons. The rail covers work as intended and does it flawlessly. They firmly snap in place and stay where you put them. They are designed to be used to go around attachments on your rail system. If they were able to “slide” across the rail, they wouldn’t stay in place very well. I had to move one of the pieces after installing an item to the track of my AR. The process was simple and easy to follow (the instructions had words and pretty pictures!) Using 2 5.56 rounds, I removed the rail cover from the rail and then moved it to a new location on the track. It wasn’t mind-blowing. If you want sturdy rail covers, won’t budge and have good stippling, then you should buy these.
