Vortex Spitfire 3x Reviews

The vortex spitfire 3x is a great optic

I don’t know how Vortex Optics does it, but the optics are just exceptional for the cost. I have other optics that are far more costly from manufacturers that are known and rated the best in the industry. This optic is right up there with all of them, AND it has a lifetime warranty. Crystal clear is one thing, but the etched optic lens works well in green or red…I don’t know which I like the best. Quick shipping from MSP and some super deals. Love this scope on my Windham AR 15 5.56

Superb optic quality

I picked up the Prism EBR to use on an SBR .300BLK build.
Very impressed as always with the quality of vortex glass and function (not to mention the lifetime warranty!).

The only reason for 4/5 stars is the downside of this model is a lack of eye relief, so the optic needs to be mounted farther to the rear of the upper. Basically, with your nose indexing the charging handle, you’ll have a perfect view.
The reticle is clear and crisp, in either red or green.

Well worth the purchase. In my opinion, the closest sight to an ACOG without the price tag.

Close to an ACOG

Like most Vortex well thought out. The 3x magnification with adjustable illumination makes target acquisition easy. The BDC circle reticle is easy on older eyes. The etched reticle does answer the question of what happens when your battery quits, but it only substitutes for illumination. The only downside is the capped tiny turret is super stiff and has no adjustment indicator arrows. I bought this with a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6 to do a side by side comparison. The Strike Eagle handily wins as a mort pronounced reticle with a red dot illumination. The downside is weight, where the Vortex Spitfire 3x comes out on top.

Just Me

Very satisfied

This Vortex Spitfire 3x was my first firearm optic purchase ever. I wanted to accessorize my new AR-15 with an optic for close range and up to 100 yards. I haven’t been to a 100yd range yet, but I’ve shot a few hundred rounds at my indoor 50yd range, and I’m delighted.

The build quality is SOLID, and I do love handling it. To put it plainly, it a beautiful unit. In hand, it has a confident weight and solid feel. The MOA adjustment dials are a little mushy, but it shouldn’t bother since you can still quickly notice each click. The five levels of brightness (green or red) is perfect on the etched reticle. The view through the lens is crisp and clear at all distances. What is nice is that the eye relief range is extensive from 1-4.5 inches. You get a full view. I haven’t been in any adverse environments to test the waterproofness or anti-fog properties, so I can’t attest to any of that. Some great ‘extras’ are 1) pop-up covers for both ends (all optics should come with these), 2) the turret covers are tethered to each other through a small loop with a metal cord, so you don’t worry about losing them, and 3) two angled 3-slot Picatinny rails on either side of the scope.

My only knock on the scope is that I thought it was a 1-3x, but instead, it’s a fixed 3x zoom, so there’s no adjusting that.

Finally, you just can’t beat Vortex’s lifetime no-excuses warranty. Do I recommend this product? Definitely.

old mantra,

Great AR Scope

While attending a two-day course where a thousand rounds were fired at various distances, It became apparent that the holographic sight and magnifier combo I was using was too heavy and cumbersome. Not to mention too expensive. Two fellow participants were kind enough to let me try their Spitfire 3X Prism, and I immediately fell in love and felt ashamed at spending twice as much for an inadequate kit. Now those same drills are accomplished faster and more accurately with the fixed 3 Power Spitfire and the incredible EBR reticle.
