Vortex Venom reviews
Yes I would buy this again
This is very light at less than 2 ounces. It has a small window. It makes me work at getting on target fast by practicing right and slow. I like the light adjustment being on the side of the frame. Very easy to operate. The auto-brightness setting lovely, too, but I prefer to fix it myself, which is easy to do as well. Battery placement doesn’t require unmounting the RD. This sits very low on my SW 22 Victory. I am considering another one for the USPSA carry optic division. The two white lines on the back of the vortex venom red dot help to get the gun aligned when bringing it up to engage targets. I have a Razor RD mounted on another handgun. That window is larger, but controls for brightness are much harder for me to deal with. Plus, the Vortex warranty is unbeatable. They are true to their word.
The excellent red dot sight
I put this on my Glock 19 and went to Front Sight with it. I put 650 rounds through the gun during the four-day course, and it worked very well. During one session of drills, the battery went dead. Still, I also have a set of Trijicon suppressor height tritium night sights which co-witnesses through the Vortex Venom, and this got me through the collection of drills until a break when I could change the battery. These work excellently together. I lost the little rubber cover to my vortex venom, but upon an inquiry Vortex, they sent me a couple of replacements, excellent service! I like this company.
Magnificent Little red dot Sight
I bought this sight to put on my Mossberg 835 turkey gun, and I couldn’t be happier with it. I decided to put this red dot sight on my pistol because of the new extended range of turkey loads I was using. I started using the Hevi Shot magnum blend and Winchester long beard XR’s. In 2017 I bagged a tom that was holding steady at 60 yards with open sights. At this distance, plus the early morning light, it was only his outline that I could see around my front bead. Even though I got him, I decided that since these shells were that effective at that distance, I wanted to be more confident in my shot placements for the future. This site is perfect for that task. I put a Picatinny rail on my gun, and the sight mounts easily right to it. It is a shallow profile which allows a solid cheek weld; this is essential when shooting 12 gauge 3 1/2″. Not only does this help at the long distances but works very well for the extremely tight patterns that these loads hold below 20 yards. I sighted it in very quickly with less than ten rounds. Since setting my zero, I put two more boxes(20 cartridges) plus the two from my successful opening day morning. Holds zero perfectly. Opening day shots were 48 yards and 38 yards. The sight allowed perfect shot placement for both shots.
Small but big in value
I bought this red dot sight to mount on my FNX-Tactical 45 ACP. After reading all of the positive online reviews and an excellent warranty, I decided to try one. Very glad that I did the Vortex Venom mounts nicely to the FNX with the supplied mounting plate and screws that come with the pistol. The red dot is very easy to see even at midday with bright sunlight while shooting white painted ar 500 steel gongs, and the Vortex Venom takes the recoil while holding zero.
Great sight
I have this mounted on Ruger Mk3 and its best red-dot view I have used. I have tried Redfield, SightMark, EOTech, and this is BY FAR the best. Much easier than laser plus no special holster issue. Small, lightweight, unobtrusive, reasonable cost. The dot is easy to find. Adjustments are easy to make. It comes with a tool that fits both the adjustment screws and battery cover. Getting a second one for my PMR-30. And probably a third for girlfriend’s Ruger 22/45. And Midway, of course, is the best place to get it. Everyone has the same price; Midway is just so reliable and honest to deal with.
I recommend and will buy this product again
Bought two if the vortex venom red dot sights, mounted them of the slides of my two Infinity 38 supers, sighted them in, and the one installed on my pistol works flawlessly. I love it, the one on my wife’s gun started shutting off after every round and had to be turned on, contacted Midway and even though it was past the time allowed for defective returns, the lady on the phone went above and beyond, she arranged for me to return the sight to Midway and asked me to include my receipt for the shipping, it’s very rare for a company to stand behind the products it sells, you can bet I will continue to purchase all my gun-related products from Larry. But getting back to the Venom, They replaced two Leupold Delta points, nothing wrong with them, just that the convenience of replacing the battery without removing and resighting the sight, also the deltas diamond was a little large for small targets, the Venom has superb for all types of goals and all distances, I will recommend it to my friends
Great, but could be a little better!
I use this on both my pistol and rifle for competition shooting. It is a very fast and easy to use sight system. Pros: -Straightforward to set up. -High-speed acquisition. -Bright in broad daylight. -It has both automatic and manual brightness control. -Long battery life. Cons: -Does not use a CR2032 battery like just about everything else on the market. -The battery cover is difficult to install and easy to cross thread. -Picatinny base locking block can wedge itself between the optic and the Picatinny base, causing the optic to sit loose. I have seen some complaints about there not being positive detents for the adjustments. They are there, and I can feel them. They are very subtle and more comfortable to think if you move the adjustment screw a lot all at once.
Excellent red dot for Henry Big Boy
I have this sight mounted on a Henry Big Boy Steel .45 Colt lever gun. My old eyes could not deal with the buckhorn sights, and I didn’t want to install a scope on the little carbine. This Vortex Venom turns out to be the perfect solution. It is super quick to get on target and much easier to use than iron sights. I am impressed! Hunting in the woods or just banging steel plates for fun, this is a dandy sight! This is my first red dot, but I expect it won’t be the last.
High low profile red dot.
I just received this with free shipping on UPS. High low profile red dot. However, if you want to install this on a Ruger 10/22 caution, the Picatinny rail that mounts to the top of the 10/22 is not standard. The problem is that the slots on the rail are smaller than the standard Picatinny rail. So the mount supplied with the vortex venom red dot does not fit. With some careful filing of the rail on the 10/22, the Venom fits excellent. Just don’t expect it to fit right out of the box.
