Magpul XTM rail covers reviews

From sad to glad!

Mounted the Magpul XTM rail covers to my SCAR 17 Extended Rail while leaving room for my detachable bipod. I wound up with a pile of plastic pieces after firing a mere dozen rounds. A SAD and frustrating experience; however, as hard-headed as I can be, I elected to give it another try. This time after applying them, I gave each connection an ever so slight but firm squeeze with a pair of plyers. Now I’m GLAD to report that after having fired well over 1000-rounds, they remain tightly connected as expected.

picatinny rail covers with style

These picatinny rail covers have a great grip surface with great heat protection. Very easy to install, but be careful when removing them. Removal is a little tricky at first. Once you do a couple, it is quite easy.

Works Great

The Magpul XTM are great rail covers, I have used them on the last four builds. Sometimes they are a pain to install, but you can’t beat the flexibility in color combo’s and be able to add/remove the covers easy to change your rail setup.

Disappointed

First, let me say I love and use Magpul products. Thought these enhanced panels would be a step up from the original panels. These appear to be made from a more brittle material, and they are easily broken when removed. First Magpul product I have been disappointed with.

Good, Solid and Comfortable

I put these on my quad-rail, and they’re so comfy and holding the rifle. They do an admirable job of absorbing the heat that comes off of the barrel. Although you have to work at them to get them to snap on the rail, once you figure out how to, they stay secure. I would highly recommend them.

Conceals the rough edges of the rail

This will cover the unused section of any rail, and it looks cool. Also, it ‘softens’ the edges of the rail when gripped during firing/handling. The product can be removed, but I’m not sure how well it will reattach; super glue may be required. I’ve never ‘popped’ one-off after installation; it stays put securely.

I don’t like pink, but I am looking for a cheap bargain.

Bought the Magpul XTM rail covers to replace the hard rubber black ones that were breaking off. Washed these pink picatinny rail covers in acetone and spray painted them camo — not bad results. Paint chipped where I applied pressure from pliers to snap them together in place. Otherwise, I can live with these hidden pink covers. Would I buy them again? Yes. I am cheap.

A little work for a great custom look.

The Magpul XTM rail covers look awesome, and the varieties of colors and the Hand Stop Kit made my AR Pistol look great. The upper is piston operated, so the grip is a little wide, but not bad. In my experience, some picatinny rail covers sections required tools for install/removal. I used a pipe wrench pliers to get a positive lock on some sections, just a firm squeeze and it clicked, some locked by hand. Instead of using two rounds to remove each section, I used two thinner flat head bits from a gunsmithing screwdriver set. That separated the picatinny rail covers pretty good, and once a gap appeared used, the screwdriver with another flat bit and simply turned once to split the sections. It sounds like a lot of work but got easier and almost fun as different configurations were desired to fit sling mounts, light, other XTM colors, etc.
