Ncstar red dot with laser reviews
Hit the bull’s eye.
This Ncstar red dot with laser is incredible. I wasn’t looking for a scope. The range I need to use this for is close. The laser is not designed for daytime use. The red dot sight is more than bright enough if you know how to use it.
The laser is too far from being in line with the barrel. …
The laser is too far from being in line with the barrel. I don’t plan to use the laser. Other than that, typical affordable red dot. Mounts solid, not too heavy, and the red dot is bright enough for most settings. I use “iron sights” to co-witness, and this works quite well for that.
Professional Quality Sight
The very high-quality red dot sight that combines both red dot and laser sight that can even be simultaneous. Sighted I quickly. Secures well to weaver mount on my GSG522. Amazing price.
An Excellent Tactical Sight!
Wow! The quick-release lever makes it a snap to put on and take off; I am swapping it back and forth between a GSG-5 and a Saiga-12. The housing is substantial metal, not cheap plastic, and the price is excellent! The selector switch on the side lets you choose between the red dot, the laser, or both. The red dot and the laser can also be sighted-in separately, one for short-range and one for the medium range!
Very Nice
This is an excellent scope at any price – the laser is the icing on the cake. I bought one for my HP 995 (9mm carbine rifle) and was able to put an 8″ grouping at 100 yards without a problem (which is pretty good for a pistol caliber carbine). It only took a few minutes to site it in.
A tremendous tactical sight for the price!
I purchased this sight because I was familiar with NCStar quality from other items purchased. I mounted this on my HI-POINT 9mm carbine and have fired at least 600 rounds before I moved it to my M&P 15-22 (to replace a broken BSA) for another couple of thousand rounds. Target acquisition is fast, and I find this sight to be accurate and able to hold zero. The dot isn’t the brightest I’ve ever owned, but it is adequate, even in the blazing sun. I don’t use the laser much, but it’s nice to have. I have the dot set for 20 yards and the laser set for 10. This allows me better accuracy at two distances and has improved my scores.
On Target
I was pleased with the sight housing being made of metal and not some cheap plastic, the price was right, and so I ordered it for my 870 Police Magnum. I received the sight within the timeframe the shipper said I would. It’s just a shame it didn’t come the same day as the Picatinny mount I had also ordered. My only complaint is that its hard to rotate the knobs. This could be a problem during a life or death situation, even with only having to turn it forward once for both the red dot and laser to come on. I’m hoping there is a quick fix for this. I can’t wait to hit up the range.
Best Red Dot out there?
This little RDS sight comes with a laser and five adjustable brightness settings for the red dot all in one. Not only that, but a very tight quick detach lever to install/uninstall within 2 seconds. This is perfect for people who have plenty of guns with rails or when going out with friends to the range. You can use this on multiple weapons on the go and feels just as sturdy as any other RDS sight.
Good but not great
Build quality, materials, and mechanical design are fantastic, but the red dot brightness is almost useless on a sunny day. At the maximum brightness setting, it’s pretty much invisible on a sunlit target and by no means quick and easy to pick up (sort of the point of a CQB sight like this). I tried a fresh battery, and it was no better. The laser is useless in all but indoors environments, too (which I expected).
Had high hopes for this sight — the aperture is enormous, and the FOV is nice. Looks mean on a sub-machinegun. I’ve been thrilled with other NCStar products like their tubeless reflex sights, but this one, not so much. Skip it if your highest priority is a lovely bright, quick sight reticle for outdoor use.
Magnificent Lil sight & excellent tech support
I had to change my rating just now. When I got the sight, the selector was hard to turn. I emailed NcSTAR with the problem, and a tech replied with a quick Lil step by step to fix the problem.
The red dot is beautiful and bright, and the optics are clear. The laser is gorgeous and sunny. The quick-release is adjustable and very secure.
I haven’t had a chance to shoot with it on yet, but the red dot and the laser are both adjustable.
Very happy with the product.
Great for the price
Please put this on a Saiga 12 gauge, and I think a shotgun is about all this is suitable for. There is a slight halo around the red dot, and the laser is only adjustable so much. Definitely wouldn’t see this as practical or accurate on a rifle, but for the price, it’s an excellent little red dot. YMMV
Best Bang for the Buck
I put this on my trusty Socom 16 M1a with the VLTOR mod stock. Needed nothing; the stock receiver rail on the Socom 16 was Perfectly placed, saving me the extra weight of adding additional tracks. Now I almost bought an Eotech but tried this instead, and I am glad I did; you can self zero using the side laser and red dot at the same time! Couple rounds and its money. The best part; you flip a lever, and it’s on your home defense shotgun. I would suggest buying a couple of extra watch batteries to be well-stocked, but mine came with two; one installed one in ziplock. Folks can tell you to buy a $500 Aimpoint or EOTech, but it’s just a 1x dot site at the end of the day; no magnification, etc. and this NC Star product is beneficial. I love being able to judge distance by looking at holodot and the laser dot at the same time; the closer together they are, the farther the target; Instant distance feedback. Heck, I might keep one of these in my Golf bag. Mine was 5MW and brighter than all get out during broad daylight in snow-covered winter, so the other guy must have had a bad unit.
I now own 2 Ncstar red dot with laser
After purchasing one of these to mount on an AK as a night-time coyote gun for around the campsite, I liked it a great deal. Now I’m adding one to a car15. It’s fantastic on that particular firearm. Mounted forward on the quad rail, it provides quick sight picture with the option of still using the carry handle sights right through the red dot.
The one issue I’ve had is that the switch to activate the red dot/laser can become loose. When I first received the original scope, it was hard to turn. With some use, it became easier & then got too loose. (Could be from the recoil of the 7.62) I ended up taking the battery out and disassembled the switch enough to re-tighten the small screws (do not get them to tight as the switch will become difficult to move)and put a dab of superglue on the head of each one. It works fine. A bit of an issue, but I like the scope well enough that it was worth the effort, and I purchased a second one. Optics are excellent & clear, the red dot and laser are both bright, and the lens coating looks good. Not an Aimpoint, but not hundreds of dollars either.
For the price, it’s an excellent choice.
